Cell Lines: A549 (Human lung adenocarcinoma cells)
Summary: Due to pollution, around 7 million people died in 2018. One of the most toxic particles in the air is Phthalic acid (PA) and its derivatives. Thus, in this paper, Y. L. de Albuquerque with colleagues have studied the toxicity of PA by-products on lung cells. Authors have determined that 1,4-NQ is the most toxic by-product and highlights the complementary of RTCA and the HoloMonitor microscope for studying effects on lung cells induced by chemicals. HoloMonitor M4 was used to study A549 cell morphology (area, optical volume, perimeter) and movements (migration, motility, and motility speed) after exposure to various chemicals.
