Summary: Book chapter: Cell migration is of great relevance to researchers studying development, wound healing, the immune system and its responses and diseases associated with deregulated cell migration. The study of cell migration has been made possible by the development of a huge variety of experimental set-ups in 2D and 3D focussing on specific aspects of cell migration. In this chapter, some of such specific aspects of cell migration will be discussed and the assays available to investigate the particular features of cell migration. HoloMonitor M4 is presented as a cell friendly alternative, where cells will be kept in their optimum growth conditions.
