Summary: Short peptide-based hydrogels hold significant potential for biomedical applications, including targeted drug delivery and cell culture scaffolds. This study examines three pentapeptide sequences derived from the C-terminal region of the SARS-CoV envelope (E) protein and their impact on hydrogel gelation. Using the HoloMonitor M4, the effects of these peptides on colon adenocarcinoma SW-620 cells were assessed by monitoring cell count, confluence, and volume. The authors highlight live-cell imaging with digital holography as a superior method compared to traditional static imaging and endpoint assays like MTT.
